I totally agree with you. My hope is that they are conscious of local entrepreneurship and work with existing businesses - get your coffee from the local cafe, your beer from the local microbrewery, and your catered snacks from a local restaurant.
Coworking spaces have such huge potential to almost be the "tasting menu" space for remote workers. Because you aren't in the office and everyone else you work with is also remote / may not know the town well, your coworking space can easily be a space to not only get work done but get introduced to local small businesses.
I think in time, too, coworking spaces will have an opportunity to play "innovation hub" and help entrepreneurs open an online presence or help newbie entrepreneurs get going - after all, that's just lead generation
I think co-working spaces are going to be such an interesting thing to keep an eye on!
