I think I stopped reading when you talked about download speeds. I’m lucky and have great connectivity. Lots of other rural folks, not so much. Unless Canada and the US realize this is crucial to growing the economy, there is not much point in all the rest.

Hey Lois! I think you're absolutely right - without internet, you have nothing. However, in the process of researching this post I also found that if *all* you have is fast internet, you aren't much further ahead.

My goal with this post was to inform the folks who wanted to know what comes next. So you have great wifi - amazing. But how do you entice folks to come make a life in that town instead of just visiting? Or how do you encourage people to take part in vibrant town life instead of only staying home? That's not to say you can't engage in life on your own terms, but this article was explicitly about what towns can do to attract and retain remote workers from cities. So while internet is critical, it's not everything.

You are partly right. How do you attract people from outside rural areas - even if you have a kickass art gallery, great hiking trails, a gorgeous river and conservation area and amazing Restos (okay two, but they’re great!) unless you have a way to tell to city folks? Just saying.

Exactly! So internet is the foundation (that's why I called it "the essential start"), then you have to shout from the rooftops all the amazing things you have going for you (I talk about that in the "Crafting a marketing strategy to attract remote workers" section).
